Advocacy Trip

Journey to Kenya with us for a 10 day experience that will immerse you in the stories of strength of survivors who are leading their communities toward healing, transformation and liberation.

Freely in Hope’s Advocacy Trip is for advocates who desire to collaborate with leaders in the global fight against sexual violence. Our Advocacy Trips value reciprocity—a giving and sharing of leadership skills, knowledge, and trainings that will make us all better changemakers in our world.

Freely in Hope’s Advocacy Trip requires three commitments:

1) Learn from Survivors: During your trip, advocates will hear stories of hope from survivors of sexual violence and observe how they are leading their communities toward freedom. Freely in Hope staff will provide advocates with trainings on Kenyan culture, organizational values, and our philosophy of leadership.

2) Design a Leadership Workshop: Freely in Hope values reciprocal learning in global communities. Your group will design and develop an interactive, leadership-based workshop to share with survivor-leaders, local practitioners, and high school students in the community. Advocates have taught an array of workshops including: health and nutrition, dance therapy, parenting, spiritual disciplines, peace and conflict management, and mental health awareness.

3) Create an Advocacy Response: Advocates will become further involved in the prevention of sexual violence by creating and committing to a strategic response upon return.

Before the trip, we’ll provide a list of reading materials, more information about the trip’s itinerary, and brief cultural training. Throughout the trip, we’ll provide educational presentations and structured conversations, so you will return home prepared and excited to share your experience with others.

Previous advocates have hosted dinner parties, fundraising events, written guest blog posts, committed to raising a certain amount of money for us, or simply told their friends about their trip and invited them to get involved in the work of ending sexual violence.

Be creative—we want to share your ideas on our website!

Advocates will learn among our Freely in Hope staff, survivor-leaders, and partnering high schools. At our partnering schools, you’ll see our survivor-leaders in action doing what they love in the community! You’ll gain firsthand experience participating in events in Nairobi’s informal settlements, city center, and at Freely in Hope’s Community Center. We’ll close each day with intentional conversation, prayers and hopes, and contemplative reflection.

Advocates will embark on a safari in a forest along the banks of the Mara River in one of the prime areas of the renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. The experience of being in the wild coupled with luxury and attention to detail is the finest way to enjoy the magic and mystery of the African wilderness with its amazing wildlife.

Includes: Airfare from Nairobi to Mara, airstrip transfers, park fees, luxury tent accommodation, all food and snacks, all drinks, all game drives in 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser safari vehicles with binoculars and guide books provided, guided nature walk, laundry services, taxes.
