2015 Highlights

As 2015 draws to a close, we’ve reflecting on all we’ve done and celebrating all we’ve achieved through your support. It’s been a transformative year for Freely in Hope and we’re excited to celebrate another year of equipping survivors and advocates to lead in ending the cycle of sexual violence in Kenya. Check out a few of our highlights!

We accepted 10 new scholars into Freely in Hope, including 5 high school students…

…and 5 university students like Osikol who is studying law at a prestigious university in Nairobi!

We partnered with The Salvation Army to lead a discussion with women who are in prostitution to teach them about how they can end the cycle of mother to daughter prostitution. It was a powerful experience!

Freely in Hope staff and scholars received training and certification in healing the wounds of trauma from the Trauma Healing Institute.

We led our Storytelling Conferences with children at a partnering children’s home—where one of our Freely in Hope scholars grew up.

We led art therapy with children who are survivors of sexual violence through our partners at the Gender Violence Recovery Centre.

We love working with children—we also partnered with Art & Abolition to lead a Trauma Healing discussion with children rescued from sex slavery. Check out their incredible work!

We taught on sexual violence prevention in several schools in slums throughout Kenya. Here, we partnered with One Lamb Ministries who work to end child prostitution.

We celebrated our 5th Anniversary in San Francisco and Nairobi!

Freely in Hope scholars led our annual International Day of the Girl Summit in Nairobi with over 100 students, survivors, and practitioners working to end sexual violence. Our partner, Garden of Hope Foundation brought incredible students from the Kibera Slum!

We reached over 400 students through our sexual violence Prevention Programs, Trauma Healing sessions, and Storytelling Conferences in schools, churches, and partnering organizations throughout Kenya.

We celebrated 4 high school graduates! They will be moving onto a focused leadership program as they apply to universities.

We celebrated 1 university graduation and look forward to many more in 2016!

Asante sana (thank you) for the incredible year!
We look forward to seeing many more lives transformed, healed, and liberated in the new year.
